AXEL LOWE’S JOURNEY

Hairline Design: Axel’s journey begins with a collaboration with Dr. Anderson to map out how his new hairline should look. Dr. Anderson uses a surgical marker to draw guidelines directly onto the scalp.

Donor Area Hair Cut: Next, Dr. Anderson trims the donor site hair to allow the ARTAS robot access to the scalp. The hair must be at a precise length, eliminating the need for Axel to prep ahead of time.

Surgical Hair Wash: Axel’s scalp receives a thorough cleaning to prepare for the procedure, helping to minimize infection risks and clear the area of any loose hair from the haircut.

Anesthesia Injections: To ensure a pain-free, comfortable experience, Dr. Anderson numbs Axel’s scalp with local anesthesia and administers a light sedative.

Site Creation: Dr. Anderson creates a single, tiny incision for each follicle that will be implanted. The angle and location of each incision determine the growth direction and location of the implanted hair follicle.

Prepping for the Robot: Next, a tensioner is applied to the scalp in the donor area. This device holds the skin under tension, providing a stable environment and alignment for the robot to ‘see’ the follicles for extraction.

Controlling the Robot: The ARTAS robot is not like a car wash – you can’t just stick your head in and come out with hair. Success comes from integrating technology and surgical skill, so Dr. Anderson guides the ARTAS robot in extracting hair follicles from the scalp.

Initial Graft Sampling: Under Dr. Anderson’s guidance, and using its 2-step punch system, the ARTAS robot cuts a few grafts for evaluation.

Graft Evaluation: Dr. Anderson gently removes the sample follicles excised by the robot to assess their quality. If needed, he adjusts the extraction parameters, such as depth and angle of harvest.

Graft Extractions: Next, the ARTAS robot systematically and evenly cuts the grafts within the confines of the tensioner. The follicles are then removed one by one, carefully trimmed under a microscope by a team of technicians. The tensioner is moved to a new area of the scalp, and the process is repeated until the required number of follicles has been harvested.

Implantation of Hair Follicles: The final step involves implanting the hair follicles into the designated sites. A team of 2-3 technicians simultaneously places the follicles, minimizing the time the grafts spend detached from their blood supply.Â
