Dr. Malhotra has returned to the Anderson Center for Hair for a second procedure. His first procedure occurred a little more than a year ago. As a dermatologist and new hair restoration surgeon, Dr. Malhotra initially came to learn hair restoration from Dr. Anderson and chose to trust Dr. Anderson with his own head.

After signing the consents, Dr. Anderson reviews the hairline with the patient, Dr. Malhotra. Together, they discuss the placement of new hairs, focusing on increasing density between the hairs placed during the first procedure.

Dr. Anderson takes serial photos from all angles because documenting the journey is crucial. These images not only capture the “before” state but are also essential for monitoring the transformative journey of Dr. Malhotra’s hair restoration process.

The next step involves cutting the hair in the donor areas, usually the back and sides of the head. This makes it easier to identify and extract healthy hair follicles.

A thorough wash of the scalp is performed to ensure a clean, infection-free area for the surgery. This standard procedure minimizes the risk of complications.

Dr. Anderson takes great care in numbing the patient’s scalp in the front area, where follicles will be implanted, making the remainder of the day a painless process.

Next, Dr. Anderson injects Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) into the area where grafts will be placed, which promotes hair growth and healing, enhancing the overall success of the transplant.

Post-PRP comes site creation. This critical and artistic phase of the process involves Dr. Anderson meticulously creating individual sites for each hair follicle. The angle of the site that’s created determines the angle the hair will grow at. This step is crucial for determining the final aesthetic result and requires a blend of medical expertise and artistic vision.

Once the sites are created, the focus shifts to the back of the head where follicles will be harvested. Dr. Anderson injects additional anesthesia to numb the area, ensuring the patient feels nothing while the hairs are extracted.

Using the advanced WAW handheld FUE device, hair follicles are extracted one by one. This technique is known for its precision and minimally invasive approach, leading to optimal results and quick recovery.

As hairs are extracted, our team of highly-trained technicians trims excess tissue from each hair follicle while keeping the grafts cold and wet.

A team of three technicians simultaneously implants each hair follicle that was extracted and trimmed into a site created by Dr. Anderson. Working as a team allows the technicians to place the hairs back into the scalp quickly and efficiently, minimizing the time the grafts spend outside the patient’s head. At the end of this process, Dr. Malhotra’s head is cleaned and covered, and he leaves with thorough aftercare instructions.

Dr. Malhotra returned the day after surgery to observe Dr. Anderson teaching. He felt great, looked relatively normal, and successfully traveled back to Canada, where he planned to return to work the following day.
