ABOUT DR. WETZEL

Dr. Wetzel completed his neurological surgery residency at the Emory University School of Medicine, where he was involved with various research projects focused on nerve regeneration, gene therapy, and the development of animal models for studying neurological conditions. These investigations aimed to advance scientific understanding, develop potential treatments, and ultimately improve patient outcomes. Dr. Wetzel earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas at Houston Medical School, where he scored in the 99% percentile for his USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK exams. He started his academic career with an undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Texas at Austin.

Dr. Wetzel has been recognized for his outstanding work in the field of medicine, including the Resident Research Presentation Award at the GNS 2017 Fall Meeting. While in medical school, he was the recipient of the Distinguished Student in the Neurosciences Award in 2013, was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha, Delta Chapter of Texas, and received the NIH/NINDS Medical Student Summer Research Award.

In addition to his professional achievements, Dr. Wetzel has a range of personal interests that include reading, running, cooking, wildlife photography, SCUBA diving, and motorcycle riding.
